#GIVEAWAY Merry Bookmas: Steph’s Six Days of Christmas

XmasFB_Banner

Happy Holidays, everyone!

This December, I’ve teamed up with six bloggers who have been with me from the very beginning to do a Christmas giveaway for all of you. Even before my first book came out, these girls were cheering me on and helping spread the word about me and my Love in the City series. They’ve put me in touch with so many other bloggers and readers I’ve become friends with now, too. They’ve made teaser pics and hosted giveaways for me. They’ve been involved with blog tours and my series tour. They’ve helped give me insight to New York City (the setting of the Love in the City series) since I live in Kansas and have yet to visit! They’ve beta read for me. They’ve left honest, beautiful reviews for both books that put a smile on my face. Simply put, they’ve taken time out of their busy lives to take a chance on me and my books, to promote them without asking for anything in return. They’ve seriously made 2014 a great year for me.

So, as a way to say thank you for all their support and to give back, I’ve given each blog a signed paperback set of the first two books in the Love in the City series to give away to their followers (Wanted By You & Fantasized By You). Six lucky readers will win both books! All you have to do is enter the giveaway below by clicking on the photo and following their blogs, following them on Twitter, and/or tweeting about the giveaway!

Xmas

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday and an even better New Year! Thank you so much for making 2014 a great debut year for my writing! Your support truly means the world to me! This is only the beginning, folks! I have so many ideas floating around this crazy mind of mine; I can’t wait to share all my stories with you.

If you’re new to the Love in the City series, I truly hope you check it out and enjoy it; I’d love to hear what you think of the gang! If you’re already a fan and can’t wait for more, I promise I’m working hard to give you everything you want! 😉 Stay tuned: I may just share the covers for the rest of the series and their blurbs soon! They’re too pretty to keep a secret much longer. Comment below with whose cover and blurb you’re most excited for: Tessa and Justin’s book, Paige’s book, Max’s book, or Cash’s book!

And as always, please share the giveaway with your book-lovin’ friends and spread the holiday cheer!

Xo,

Steph

Book Bloggers Are The Shit

There, I said it. Book bloggers are the shit. But most of us already knew that. They take the time to read and post about our books, and they do it all for the love of reading, for no compensation whatsoever. They have lives of their own. They have families and friends and a lot of other shit they could be doing besides reading our books and spreading the word about them, but that’s exactly what they do because they love books.

I cannot tell you how overwhelmed I was by the participation from the book bloggers who posted during my Love in the City Series Tour last week. I will forever be thankful for each and every one of you who took the time to help me out. Like I said, you have tons of other things you could’ve been doing that are way more important than me, so the fact that you took a chance on my books and you helped spread the word about them by posting reviews and promotional posts on your blogs, your Facebook pages, and/or your Twitter timelines, truly means the world to me. Your honesty in your reviews and feedback continuously molds the writer in me.

With that said, I hope you know that I’m always here for you, too. I really do believe that we should support one another, and that goes beyond just donating to your giveaways whenever you hit a milestone (though I don’t mind donating so please feel free to ask). What I mean is, I know some of you were ill or had family emergencies or other things going on in your lives, and I appreciate you taking the time to message me and let me know why you couldn’t post on the day you signed up and that your post was going to be delayed. Life happens, and I completely understand and want you to know that you can always message me for support. I just hope you know that you could never disappoint me or let me down. You’ve willingly gave me your support, and I’m here to give you mine right back. Some of you messaged me in regards to the subject matter of my books, relating to the same issues my characters go through, and I thank you for sharing your story with me. The whole idea behind my books and my characters’ stories is to raise awareness, and by sharing your own stories and spreading the word about my books, you’re doing just that. So, thank you for being awesome, for raising awareness, for encouraging others to read and sharing your love for books, and for simply being yourself. I look forward to getting to know each of you better in the future!

Join the Navy!

Yes, it’s finally happened. I’ve created a place where you can all go and talk all things Steph Nuss and my books! It’s also a place where you can talk about other books, as long as it’s in a positive manner. I will not tolerate negative posts and/or comments about anything, especially other authors and their books. So, if you want to be part of Nuss’ Navy, come on over to Facebook, take the oath, and become one of Steph’s sailors today!

Nuss' Navy

Nuss’ Navy Oath

I, [your name here], do solemnly swear that I will support and promote Steph Nuss and her books in a positive manner; that I will bear true faith and honor to the Navy by sharing my love for reading with my fellow book lovers and treating them how I want to be treated; that I will obey the orders of keeping all drama outside of the Navy including keeping any and all negative thoughts and/or comments about other authors, books, bloggers, and readers to myself; that I make this obligation freely, without any reservation or purpose of elusion; and that I will well and loyally discharge the duties of the group I am about to enter. So help me God.

The Art of Writing

Last night, I finished up with a few tweaks and edits on WANTED BY YOU. It’s headed to the copy editor now which means we’re getting closer and closer to publication!

*throws confetti!*

Let’s talk about the art of writing for a moment…

I think some people think writing a book is like taking a crap. You just sit down and write, and boom, a masterpiece is formed. No. That’s not how it works. There’s anxiety involved. A lot of anxiety and edits and rewrites. And the voices in your head never shut up. And they’re begging you to tell their story, but you can’t write fast enough to get everything down at once so you have notes all over the place. Inside your old college notebooks. On your Notes app on your iPhone. On your laptop’s sidebar sticky notes. It’s a mess of notes all over the place; sometimes in places you can’t even remember putting them. It’s exhausting and time consuming but completely magical all at the same time.

All of the anxiety and edits and perfecting is totally worth it because writing a book is not like taking a dump. It’s not an everyday occurrence that everybody does. It’s a big deal. It’s crossing off a bucket list item. It’s chasing after the dream you’ve had since you were a little girl. A dream of one day becoming that author who inspires others to write because being a writer is their dream, too.

So, as I get closer to publishing my first book and think about all the excitement and nerves that will come with release day, I can’t help but smile and think, bring it on! I’m not going to let anything or anyone bring me down. I’ve worked hard to get where I am as a writer, and I’m not going to let one person’s opinion or a bad review or whatever bring me down because writing a book is not like taking a poop. If it was, everybody would do it and nobody would judge anybody on how they do it because nobody would care.

I’m thankful for the people who care about me and my book and the Love in the City series, the people who have taken the time to help me through the writing and editing process and given me sound advice, and to the people who read my book early on and gave me their honest opinions.

I will forever be grateful for people’s honesty and feedback, but honestly, writing a book is nothing like taking a shit. Not everybody can do it. Not everybody has the guts to do it. So, cheers to all of us who have the courage to put ourselves out there, and to all the people who continuously support and encourage us to pursue our dreams and who care enough to share their thoughts with us.

Love in Awareness

The awesome thing about being an artist is using your gift or your art for good.

That’s one of the best things about being a writer–millions of people read your words and take something from them.

That’s also why I believe in not only telling a great love story, but also supporting a variety of causes in doing so. In the My Kind of Lover series, I have designed each plot around two lovers and their love story. The lovers, either individually or together, become advocates to certain causes because they’ve either personally been impacted or know of somebody or something that has been which causes them to bring awareness to you, the readers, by showing their support to such causes. You’ll see throughout the series how each book brings awareness to certain charities like Susan G. Komen for the Cure or March of Dimes or the Special Olympics just to name a few. Each book has some cause it hopes to bring awareness to.

It’s my goal as a writer to use the passion I have to help those in need because my voice can be heard through my stories, and I hope all of you take something special away from the lovers, their story, and their support for their causes.
